Taste Ki Baat Hai

Year / Duration : 2010

Format : Beta

India is a very diverse country, culturally, geographically and from a culinary point of view. Cooking styles vary from state to state and people to people. Religion plays an important role in Indian life, and food is inseparable from religious beliefs. Festive occasions such as weddings, ceremonies and religious holidays are important social and gastronomic events in Indian life, accompanied by special dishes and meals.

Even though we are a food loving country our knowledge of the diversity of Indian cuisine is limited. Little is known about the food and manners of eating of lesser known regions and communities such as Kutchi Memons, the Baghdadi Jews of Mumbai or the Chettiars of Chennai. There is a common misconception among non-South Indians that South Indian food is made up of dosa, idli and sambar and a similar misconception exists among non-north Indians about food habits of the north.

Taste ki Baat hai is a food show with a difference. Unlike other food shows, Taste ki baat hai explores cuisines through the eyes of the people who eat it. Each episode explores the cuisine of a particular community. A member of that community plays host to the viewers and brings to life the food and culture. The audience is introduced to a variety of delicious cuisines also told interesting tidbits about the community's culinary culture.

Every episode gives the audience an introduction to the etiquette of Indian cuisine by sharing a meal with a family from the featured community. From observing the way the food is cooked in the kitchen to the way it is finally eaten, the audience will be given a glimpse of the food culture of various communities.

Some of the communities explored in this series are:
1. Anglo Indians 14. Konkani Muslims
2. Assamese Bodos 15. Kodavas
